Week 68: Krazy about Kitchens and kolour
Hello precious or whoever's reading, hope everyone’s having a fine time on this glorious afternoon in April. I write this blog in my garden soaking in all that spring has to offer. From scattered dandelions to bluebells and buzzing bees, it's all here. I’ve read somewhere that you can make a blend of tea infused with dandelions and nettles. But you will need a kitchen to cook up this concoction. So this leads me to this week’s blog; Kitchens. I for one am clueless as I have never designed a kitchen and didn't have the foggiest idea of where to start. But I followed my heart and went for what felt right. The only thing I was clear on is that I wanted to incorporate the colours of black, white and gold which is my logo. I wanted to go bold by going for an ‘all black’ kitchen,...nice huh. I know white is classic and timeless but let's face it, it's been done to death. Believe it or not I have spent only 3 days on the kitchen as I felt the more ranges I was looking at the more indecisive I was getting.
Too much variety can have a hampering effect on the decision making process as you end up losing time, which is of the essence in projects like this. I’m not that fussy and was liking plenty of what I was seeing. Sage Green, another one of my faves and ‘so now’. It’s ability to look natural works very well in commercial kitchens supporting the ‘healthy green movement’. But is the residential market ready for the green revolution? Will the market be able to handle this level of contemporary? Lets see. I for one didn’t want to take the risk as we have been told several times ‘buy or purchase’ according to the masses, i.e the greatest number of people that will potentially be living there. I know green is bang on trend but I can almost here the whispers during viewings:
“...Oh I'm not sure about the green kitchen though…”
To avoid this I went for the halfway option of Navy Blue. It’s safe, has a very up-market feel, pair it with some gold trimmings and you have yourself a very luxurious kitchen. Plus it's proving very popular at the moment. Forget that colours can go out of fashion fairy quickly, let me remind you, so have our buying habits. People are no longer buying a kitchen to last them a lifetime as our predecessors but every few years want to revamp their house.
Tip: If you find yourself falling out of love with the colour of your choice then with the help of a good decorator you can always have the option to paint over the cabinetry to give it an instant facelift without having to change the entire kitchen.
No need to thank me, I will always strive to give some great tips on my blogs and do comment below if you adopt any of the above as I will love to hear your thoughts. I know the Navy does not form my branding but the nearest one to black was Charcoal and it looked too ashy for my liking.
The dark Navy gave it a very opulent feel. It's dramatic, it's sultry and with 50 Shades of Blue to choose from what’s there not to like...haha! Let your imagination run wild..
Kitchen is such a big area and very difficult to cover in a single blog post unless you're a sucker for pain and enjoy copious amounts of reading.
L-shape, U-shape or Gallery? Shaker frames, matt finish or gloss. Work tops, hob tops (not to be confused with hot-tubs) or any other tops you can think about will all be covered next week.
