Week 72: Heating and Plumbing

After a long and hard month of fasting I am quite happy to say Ramadan has come to an end. The super long days followed by nightly prayers into the early hours has given me the much needed spiritual uplift I was after. We welcomed Eid over the weekend but this was a far cry of celebration with what is happening in Palestine. The oppression is real and painful to witness. Just hope the government officials will step in and end the ordeal.

“You see the Ummah/community is like one body. If one part is in pain the whole body suffers” (SAW).

Anyway, it was difficult making the transition back to work as so much was happening all around me. The journey so far: our roof is now complete and has taken a little longer than initially hoped. Carpenters/joiners have been busy erecting the frames for internal walls and partitions. Staircase, spindles and banister on order and partial first fix of electrics have been completed. First stage plumbing and drainage due next Monday and plasters booked for the 14th June (subject to the above being completed). I did make a visit on site for the first time in four weeks to clarify in my head what was happening with the bathrooms and all things connected. In a nutshell those were the jobs carried out between mid April to mid May.

The site visit was accompanied by the project manager who was busy doing all the drawings for the plumbing as in the fit for bathroom suites, ensuite, WC, boilers and radiators. Some tweaking of electric sockets and spot lights as the electrician came out too early to commence his work before seeing the designs/plans. Not even sure whose fault that is, but us being missing for a month could not have helped. But there was plenty of banter amongst the team when the project manager (PM) decided to use pink chalk to mark where everything goes haha. The conservatory was full of rubbish with no access to a skip for at least three to four weeks. This could be a problem in coming weeks.

I was also given some homework by the project manager to choose the radiators with only a couple of designer radiators thrown in to stay within budget. Plumbworld, Screwfix, Best Heating; these links became my friends over the last few days. But it is very hard to stick with your regular white radiators with so many nice designer ones to choose from. We have to start thinking about the tiling too. Whether to tile all surfaces or just sections of it. Obviously If I tile all the walls in the bathroom that will cost more than just doing the bathside walls, something to think about. I am also thinking of using LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) in the kitchen and dining areas. This type of flooring with its vinyl like coating is safe from water spillage and hard wearing thus, won't get easily damaged.

Next week (or two) I will discuss all things bathroom and how I go about choosing the final suits.
