Week 88: Need Screed with Speed!

Our project manager said he will sort out the screed but after months of nothing happening, I had to do something, I got someone to accept the job, after waiting three weeks he came out to inspect the property and measure up only to say no he can't do it because it was on the High Street and access is difficult. What kind of an excuse is that? How do you work in shops in that case? Then my bricklayer recommended another and after a quick google search of our property he too said he is unable to lay the screed. This time the excuse was it’s too close to the railway tracks, I need permission from the council or my insurance won’t cover it. This is the third no by the way. We all know council could take months getting back to us so why would the project manager not delve into this sooner??

The window/glazier came out for a second measure-up. The day before he comes out, the scaffolding guys take down the scaffolding along with their ladder, (the only ladder on site). Basically he couldn’t get upstairs to the windows. Not only that but he couldn't measure up for the patio doors either as the screed man didn’t want to wait around to advise him on how high the screed will be. Now he only had two small windows to measure, he’s upset that he wasted two hours of his time. He is also going away on holiday so I really wanted to place the order beforehand. Then there is the issue of not being able to get the internal doors, stairs and kitchen put in, even though we’ve had the design done months ago, because the screed had to go in first. This one job is costing us several other jobs.

To add to the mix our electrician advised us that someone had ripped out the fuse box and cables that connect to the main line power supply for the house. I have no idea if Eon has done this or is it a malicious act of vandalism. Seriously, some people need to get a life. Now I’m not sure how much this is going to set me back by ? Too bad they didn’t get electrocuted; a bit harsh, but I am up to my tether with this one! In the light of the above, how does one keep calm and remain positive? The best thing to do is look at the problem, see what needs to be done and work on a solution. Break it down and once you have dealt with one issue or come to a resolution you can move to the next. Before you know it, you have a plan in place which is helping you move forward.

This rational thinking led me to put something into place and tackle the screed problem, (the biggest source of stress at the moment). I noticed the flooring in my fave coffee shop and thought, bingo! Why not put some kind of industrial paint on the floor? The sort they use in garages. Upon speaking to one of the tradesmen he suggested something completely waky. “How about using external slabs (the limestone/sandstone type) for the kitchen?” These can go straight onto the floors just the way it is and give the house a very rustic aged look. The look I was hoping for anyway. This kid is a genius to say the least and has done more for us than the project manager who was hired for the role.

I have to disagree; always do well by others, have good intentions, be honorable and good will come back to you. The universe will see to it...
